About Us

This site includes a list of spoken English expressions and idioms, used in everyday conversation, and their equivalents.  (Help will show you how the information is tabulated.)

These expressions are not usually found in dictionaries.  Also, as much as possible, the equivalent expressions have been written using simple words.  Therefore, using this site can be an excellent tool for non-English speakers and foreign students to better understand and use spoken English.

However, the site can also be used by English Language speakers to better communicate with others.  It’s easy to forget that, if you look at them literally, common expressions such as “He ended up with egg on his face” and “The monkey is on his back now” sound somewhat weird!  Especially if it’s the first time you’re hearing them.  So, if you’re talking to someone and you get the feeling you’re not getting through, maybe you should use one of our equivalents!!!

The equivalent expressions provided on this site are not necessarily the only applicable ones.  So, if you think something is missing, or additional explanations are needed, please Submit them to us.

We also have a listing of interesting expressions from other languages.  Again, if you know of any, let us know using the same feature.

We’ve tried to make it very easy to find what you’re looking for.  If you have difficulty doing so, please refer to Need help with key words? on the Help page.  If you still have difficulty, please Contact us.
